The Farm to Childcare Program will implement a well-researched, targeted model to connect local producers of fresh fruits and vegetables to childcare programs in Western Tidewater.  The primary beneficiaries of this program will be children, who will increase their consumption of fresh vegetables while in childcare.  Parents and childcare providers will expand their knowledge of fresh vegetables as well as preparing them in healthy ways.  The program will increase the capacity of local growers to grow and distribute fresh produce.  The targeted selection of participants is based on the research that examined access issues such as food deserts, transportation, the limited availability and accessibility of fresh produce.
